Commitment to a healthy body weight
Health Body Weight is one of our three core areas. One of our strategic long-term goals (2007–2018) is to contribute to a larger proportion of individuals living in Switzerland with a healthy body weight. Our work focuses especially on the 1.8 million children and adolescents – about a quarter of the overall population of 7.8 million – living in Switzerland.
Switzerland has a National Programme on Nutrition and Physical Activity (NPNPA 2008–2012). The programme was developed by the Federal Office of Public Health, the Federal Office of Sport, the cantons, Health Promotion Switzerland and other important actors in the field of nutrition and physical activities.
The programme defines the national strategy for the promotion of appropriate nutrition and adequate physical activity. The Federal Council (Swiss government) approved the programme on 18 June 2008 and mandated the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) to implement it.
